Ranka muotoutuu...the backbone is taking its' shape

Parin viikon jälkeen on köli liitetty perä-, ja keularankaan ja veneen muoto alkaa näkyä. Komealta näyttää !! Köli on kauniisti perään päin syvenevä ja keulan kiilamaisuus näyttää hienolta. 

Perässä on materiaalia reilusti. Vannasputken pituus tulee olemaan noin 600 mm

After two week the keel has now been united with the stem and sternpost and the "backbone" is taking its' final shape.

The keel has a nice, smooth taper towards the stern and the wedge shaped bow looks very pretty. There is a lot of material in the stern structure...we estimated the stern tube to be about  600 mm long

Tässä näkyy kölin muotoa ja kölin päälle liimattu selkälauta johon ensimmäinen lautapari kiinnitetään.

This shows the shape of the keel nicely. On top of the keel is a plank which will be the bottom of the bilge and the fastening point for the first set of hull planks.

Peräranka ja sen tukipolvio. Peräpeiliä varten näkyy olake. Tähän tulee muutama läpipultti vielä vahvistamaan rakennetta.

Sternpost and the supporting structure. You can also see the little "shoulder" for  the transom. This structure will have a couple through-bolts for additional strength.

Kiilamainen keularanka...joka juuri ja juuri mahtuu olemaan sisällä. Rakennuksen edetessä ovet täytyy avata ja keulalle rakennetaan pieni potero ulkopuolelle jotta vene saadaan vaakatasoon.

The wedge-shaped bow that barely fits inside the workshop. As the build progresses the boat will have to be leveled at which point the end of the bow will have to stick outside a little. We will build a box around it...

The mast foot is situated right at the end of the keel where the stem begins.

Nyt se alkaa !!! The boatbuilding is about to start

Veneenveistäjä Marko on saanut verstaan kuntoon ja storbåtin keularanka on jo liimattu. Kölin työstö on meneillään...Hienolta näyttää ja oikeasti isolta !!

Virittelimme "Raksa-kameran" paikkaa. Kamera ottaa joka päivä 4 kuvaa koko projektin ajan ja yhdistää ne kuvat videoksi. Päätimme että siirrämme kameran paikkaa muutaman kerran projektin aikana jotta saamme koko veneen näkymään.

The boatbuilder has cleared up his workshop and started to assemble the stem and the keel. It is looking good and the size of these pieces are really big (as it should be on a big-boat).

We were looking for a suitable location for the time-lapse video and determined that it probably needs to be moved around every now and then so that we can get the whole boat covered...This camera takes 4 photos every day and combines them into a video.

Tässä on kölipuun työstö meneillään. Kolme parrua liimataan päällekkäin ja muutama peräkkäin. Sitten ne liitetään keularankaan ja peräpeiliin niin siitä muodostuu veneen "ranka"

Working on the keel-stock. Three pieces will be glued on top of each others to form a keel. Then two of those will be connected with the stem and transom to create the back-bone of the boat

Sisustus...Interior design

Runkolinjojen myötä veneen päämitat vahvistuivat ja sisustussuunnittelu pääsi vauhtiin. Seuraavat kriteerit ohjasivat suunnittelua:

As we had the lines of the boat figured out we were able to move on to interior design. There were lots of ideas that provided direction towards a functional and cosy interior.

The sitting area up in the bow

After a few rounds we are now on rev.5 and it looks like the pieces of the puzzle are starting to match. The interior is roomy and matches with the expectations. Of course there is still time to change it...

Runkosuunnittelu...Hull design

Veneen suunnittelu alkoi yhteydenotolla Harro Koskiseen jolla oli arkistossa valmiina kajuutallisen Storbåtin kuva.

The first step in the design process was to get in touch with Mr.Harro Koskinen who has a vast collection of traditional boat plans. He had a drawing of a boat with a center cabin.

Vene näyttää hyvin kauniilta mutta perinteinen takakajuutta tuo lisää käytettävyyttä...joten otin kynän käteen ja skissasin takakajuutan ja laitoin ylös mitat jotka tuntuivat hyviltä. Kyseessä on kuitenkin isovene / Storbåt joten halusin väljyyttä veneen tiloihin.

The boat looks very nice like this but the appeal of the aft cabin of a traditional type seemed like the right thing to add...so I sketched it on the drawing. I also changed the dimensions to make sure we have plenty of room in every area of the boat. This is after all a "big boat" / Storbåt.

Tältä pohjalta Harro piirsi taiteilijan ottein erittäin kauniin veneen jolla on sulavat linjat. Keulan kiilamaisuus ja tasaisesti syvenevä köli lisäävät veneen ketteryyttä käännöksissä.

Päätimme myös tehdä sivukannet koko veneen mitalle jolloin perinteinen varalaita tulee osaksi kajuuttojen rakennetta. Tämä vahvistaa veneen jykevää rakennetta entisestään.

Based on the sketch the artist Mr.Harro went back to work and came out with a beautiful looking traditional boat. The underwater part of the stem has a wedge shape and the keel gets progressively deeper toward the aft. This will make the boat easier to turn and tack.

The removable freeboard is now a permanent structure that creates the sides of the cabins as well as add on to the freeboard. We also added side-decks that cover the length of the boat. The side-decks will also enhance the integrity of the boat. Making it stronger still.

Tässä on vielä kauniit linjat, jotka mitattiin käsin piirretystä kuvasta ja siirrettiin tietokoneelle.

Here are the nice, flowing lines that we measured off the hand-drawn drawing and transferred them over to a computer software.
